Ron Grant is a previously board-certified pediatrician who, twenty years
after receiving his medical degree at the University of Wisconsin, earned an MFA
in Creative Nonfiction at the University of Arizona. A member of the Associate
Faculty at the University of Arizona’s Medical School where he currently
teaches a course in narrative medicine, he has published essays in Harmony, The
Oklahoma Review, The Sonora Review, and Creative Nonfiction (his essay, “Hypoplastic
Heart,” was a finalist in CN’ s $10,000 Best Medical Essay Contest).
In 2004 he was awarded the University of Arizona’s John Weston Fellowship.
His teaching credentials also include Creative Nonfiction classes at Pima Community
College, the University of Arizona’s Creative Writing Department, and the
Learning Curve, an adult educational program serving the arts interests of Tucson,
Ariz. With colleague Susan Ribner, he co-founded in 2004 a unique manuscript review
workshop offered to advanced writers looking to complete their nonfiction books.
